BiiJ: "But is it Jazz?" are a new (2017) female vocal led UK jazz combo performing fresh modern sounding original jazz tunes with more than a strong influence from 1930's, 40's, and 50's show tune classics.


Compositionally their style harkens back to standards of the Great American Songbook such as from some of the greatest songrwiters of all time, e.g. Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Antonio Jobim, and Rodgers, Hammerstein and Hart etc.


The band's sound echoes past jazz divas such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, and Eva Cassidy, along with contemporary stars such as Caro Emerald,

Imelda May, Postmodern Jukebox, and even the

jazz stylings of Lady Gaga.


Tracks on their "Oh Silly Me" debut album feature saxophones and digital aerophone, piano, double bass, and drums, and their debut album "Oh Silly Me" features 7 different lead vocalists across 19 tracks, creating a rich palette of tonal and stylistic variance.



Songs vary from uptempo foot-tapping swing numbers such as "Simplicity Felicity" and their children's charity single "A Frog In The Bell", to dreamy jazz ballads including "I Never Saw You Coming" and the album’s title track "Oh Silly Me", along with Latin Jazz tracks like "Away" and "Loveliness" to give a real depth of style and emotional content.


Expect short jazzy intros, stylish vocals, clever and sophisticated lyrics and melody, plenty of improvisation including some masterful piano solos, and songs littered with gorgeous vocal ad-libs and embellishments from some of the UK's up and coming young female vocalists.


BiiJ have ensured that the focus is fixed on great jazz melody and lyrics to create accessible songs that will get stuck in your head whilst transporting you back to the golden age of jazz.

Father Christmas Is Coming is BiiJ's Christmas single for 2018 and features Roman Way First School Choir (of 6 to 9 year olds) with 50% of any profits going to the school. It's BiiJ's first definitively non-jazz release, the first time we've included a choir, and the first track that we've fully produced internally ourselves and using all electronic sounds/instruments.
